The Talent Search took place on Oct. 7 at John R. Emens Auditorium as a part of Homecoming Week. Keirsten Hodgens won first in the Female Vocal category and the overall award with her performance of The Greatest Love of All.
Mile to the Isle
Ball State students strip down to support the troops and the Muncie Community, by donating to the USO and Goodwill, by participating in the Mile to the Isle run on Sept. 26 down McKinley and Riverside avenues. Participants finished the mile in under 15 minutes.

People who meet Loki or see photos of him always make comments about how wolf-life he is. He is an 6-month-old Siberian husky with white and black fur. Loki, who got his name from his facial markings, performs tricks to get a treat.
Color In Motion
The Color In Motion 5k race took place in Indianapolis, IN on Aug. 23 at 9 a.m. Participants were coated in powdered chalk.

"BSU at the fair is an immersive learning project coordinated by BSU Journalism professor, Colleen Steffen and BSU Graphic Design professor, Ryan Sparrow. The duo select [exceptional] students as writers, designers, photographers, videographers and PR to represent Ball State at the Indiana State Fair.
The class began as a project to give students real life experience in their respective fields with guidance from Sparrow and Steffen. Content is produced by writers, photographers, videographers and designers, packaged by PR and then picked up by news affiliates. The class is now an experience of professionalism and fun as the students write about the Indiana fairโs oddities, whether it be the SPAM contest or fried insects, from inside a trailer. "
The Indy State Fair: Rodeo
Cowboys compete at the Indiana State fair during the Worldโs Toughest Rodeo. Cowboys ride bulls and horses, trying to stay on for more than eight seconds so they can win the top prize: $20,000. The World's Toughest Rodeo features special guests by the name of Whiplash and Mount, his border collie rodeo partner. Whiplash is a 28-year-old Capuchin Monkey who has been riding since he was two years old.

Steven Ragatz, of Bloomington Ind., balances his hat on top of his head during his routine. He performs with The Gantry Show multiple times during the day for the entire duration on the fair.
The Indy State Fair: Extreme Freestyle Moto X
The Extreme Freestyle Moto X took place at the Hoosier Lottery Grandstand on Aug. 11. Three BMX riders, as well as three motor bike riders, performed for the audience and had an audience screaming contest to determine the winner with the best tricks.

Riders from across the country race at the Indy Mile AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Championship on Aug. 8 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Riders use their legs to help take turns by adding more weight to the front wheel; some riders also use this technique in case their bikes start to go down.

Indy State Fair: Band Day
High school students gathered from across Indiana to participate in the biggest band competition of the summer. Bands competed not only against each other but the heat, as well. The crystal blue sky held a relentless sun that bore down from morning to dusk. Several students had been carried off the field with injuries or heat exhaustion. Despite the odds, the "Spirit of Muncie" band took first place after only the second major performance the group has had together since merging their two high schools, Muncie Central and Muncie Southside this summer.
